In a Unique Ceremony, Gujarat Family Holds Funeral for 'Lucky Car' with Grand Rituals and Feast for 1,500 People

Gujarat

In an extraordinary event in Amreli, Gujarat, a family gave a ceremonial burial to their beloved Wagon R, a car they deemed "lucky" after 12 years of ownership. The Polara family organized a grand farewell for the vehicle, digging a 10-foot-deep grave on their farmland to honor the car that, according to them, brought prosperity and success to their lives.

A video of the unusual funeral has gone viral on social media, showing the car adorned with flowers and garlands, symbolizing its cherished place in the family. The car was driven ceremoniously from the family’s home to the burial site, where it was carefully lowered into the pit. Family members performed prayers and sprinkled rose petals over the vehicle as priests chanted mantras, adding to the solemnity of the farewell.

Over 1,500 guests, including saints and spiritual leaders, attended the event held in the village of Padarshinga in Lathi Taluka. The entire ceremony, including a feast for attendees, reportedly cost around ₹4 lakh. The family’s head, Sanjay Polara, who works in the construction business, explained the decision to bury the car rather than sell or scrap it, citing its sentimental and symbolic value. "This car brought us good fortune and respect in the community. It felt right to honor it with a proper farewell,” he said.

Polara also revealed plans to plant a tree at the burial site, symbolizing the car’s legacy for future generations. The burial ceremony, conducted in traditional Hindu rituals, stands as a testament to the family’s affection for a car that they considered a symbol of their prosperity and happiness.
