In a shocking incident from Chhattisgarh’s Palikheda village, a man killed his wife over suspicions of infidelity, tied her body to a stone, and dumped it in a nearby dam under the cover of darkness. To mislead authorities, the husband later filed a missing person report and pretended to search for his wife.

The case unfolded when police recovered the woman’s body on Wednesday from the Bhimseniya Dam. Investigations revealed that her husband, Umashankar (35), had murdered his wife, Ishwari Bai (32), four days earlier after a heated argument. The couple had been married for 12 years and had an 11-year-old son.

According to the police, Umashankar suspected Ishwari’s character, which often led to disputes between the two. On the day of the incident, a quarrel escalated, and in a fit of rage, Umashankar brutally beat Ishwari with a stick, resulting in her death.

Attempt to Cover Up the Crime

In an attempt to evade arrest, Umashankar devised a plan inspired by crime shows. Late at night, he tied Ishwari’s body to his bicycle and transported it to the Bhimseniya Forest near the dam. There, he fastened a stone to the body and submerged it in the water. The next morning, he reported his wife missing at the Pali police station and began pretending to search for her.

Suspicious Behavior Leads to Arrest

Police grew suspicious of Umashankar's behavior during the investigation. His inconsistent statements and evasive answers raised doubts. After sustained questioning, he confessed to the crime.

Body Recovered, Accused Arrested

With the help of the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), police conducted a search operation in the dam and recovered Ishwari’s body on Wednesday. Following this, Umashankar was arrested and charged with murder.
