A surprising case has emerged from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman sought a divorce from her husband just 40 days after their marriage. The wife alleges that her husband bathes only once a week, spending the rest of his time performing rituals with Ganga water. Upset by this habit, the wife filed a complaint at the local police station and requested a divorce.

The police have transferred the case to a family counseling center. The husband is a religious preacher involved in rituals. Upon arriving at her in-laws' house after the wedding, the wife was shocked by her husband's practices. Initially, she did not pay much attention, but eventually, she confronted him about his infrequent bathing. When he ignored her, he began sprinkling Ganga water and continuing his rituals. Additionally, the wife observed that her husband disapproved of her fasting on Mondays, a day of personal significance for her, as it marked the anniversary of his father's death.

The wife expressed concern over the risk of illness due to her husband's lack of hygiene. She claimed that her husband had bathed only six times in 40 days of marriage, leading her to move back to her parental home. The husband, however, contends that his wife is exaggerating and claims he bathes every fourth or fifth day.

Family counselor Dr. Satish Kheerwar reported that the wife has also accused the husband of physical abuse. After counseling, the husband has promised to bathe daily. Both parties have been advised to meet again for further counseling on a scheduled date.
