A Lord Shiva temple in Manipur's Senapati district sustained partial damage after unidentified individuals unlawfully entered the compound at night and set it ablaze. Sources indicate that this incident marks the second attack on the temple within weeks, with the most recent fire occurring in the early hours today.

CCTV footage captured during the incident shows a burning log being thrown toward a door inside the temple's courtyard. In another clip, reportedly from the first attack, a masked individual is seen hiding behind a pillar before fleeing the scene.

Local residents and temple caretakers managed to extinguish the fire before it could spread further, as confirmed by a local civil society organization.

The Naga Peoples' Organisation (NPO) and the Karong-Senapati Town Committee (KSTC) jointly condemned the attempted arson of the Shri Shri Pashupati Nath Mandir, stating, "Senapati is a peace-loving town where everyone practices their religion. Any action that disrupts social harmony is utterly condemnable." They urged the police to quickly apprehend those responsible.

Manipur Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba also condemned the attack in a post on X, calling it a "barbaric act" that infringes upon secularism. He stressed the importance of immediate action against the perpetrators.

A police officer in Senapati confirmed that the authorities are treating the matter with utmost seriousness, as the attacks appear aimed at inciting communal and ethnic tension in a district that has remained peaceful since May 2023. However, the police have not yet released a comprehensive statement regarding the incidents.
