Speaking in Kochi of Kerala, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor pointed out, “Our (Kerala) urban and rural unemployment rates are amongst the highest in the country… It is dishonourable that Kerala has the highest urban unemployment rate of all Indian states… Rates of unemployment for Malayali women are truly alarming at 17.3%…”.
He then goes on to add that because of this, there is need to really worry about the employment pattern.
“The youth are facing the brunt of the situation. Young men and women under the age of 25 constitute more than 23%, in India as a whole, that figure is 50.1% of the population. Kerala, is undoubtedly, aging… Even with this low figure, the youth unemployment rate is at a national high of 40%…”, he said.
