Heeralal Samariya, a Dalit IAS, sworn in as India’s Chief Information Commissioner

President Droupadi Murmu today administered the Oath of Office to Heeralal Samariya, the Chief Information Commissioner at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Heeralal Samariya has been appointed India’s Chief Information Commissioner. He is country’s first Dalit CIC. He was born in a remote and small village Pahadi of Bharatpur District of Rajasthan. He is an IAS officer of 1985 batch.

The CIC’s top post was lying vacant after YK Sinha’s term ended on Oct 3.
