In the village of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti, strict penalties have been imposed for the manufacture, sale, and consumption of alcohol. This initiative was not mandated by the government but rather established by the villagers themselves during a panchayat meeting. It has been decided that anyone caught drinking will face a fine.

In this village, it is considered a crime not only to drink but even to handle alcohol. The villagers formed this regulation themselves, and under this arrangement, anyone found consuming or selling alcohol will incur a hefty fine from the panchayat. Recently, the village panchayat held a public assembly to discuss this matter and has since implemented the decision.

It is noteworthy that former Chief Minister Uma Bharti has long championed a campaign for prohibition in the state. Although her earlier efforts were not entirely successful, the residents of her ancestral village, Duda, have embraced this initiative. The village panchayat unanimously decided in the assembly that no one in the village would sell or consume alcohol, and violations will result in significant fines.

During a panchayat meeting held at the Dehari Baba temple complex in Tikamgarh’s Duda village, it was resolved that anyone caught drinking would be fined ₹11,000, while those caught producing or selling alcohol would face a fine of ₹21,000. Additionally, individuals who report violations to the panchayat will receive a reward of ₹5,000.

According to villagers, recent incidents involving drunken brawls have led to serious consequences, including the murder of a local man named Brati Chand Jain. Alcohol-related issues have also caused familial strife in many homes. In response, the panchayat conducted a survey of alcohol consumers in the village, discovering approximately 300 individuals known for causing disturbances while intoxicated. To address these issues, the panchayat has enacted this resolution.

The panchayat has also declared that anyone attempting to enter the village while intoxicated will be stopped at the village boundaries. Following the implementation of this decision, the first incident occurred on Sunday when a young man, who had consumed alcohol outside the village, was apprehended and fined. The collected fines will be used for cleanliness initiatives within the village.

In Tikamgarh district, the Duda village panchayat has instituted a ban on alcohol consumption and sales, with fines being imposed on violators. This village is significant as it is the hometown of former Chief Minister Uma Bharti, who has been advocating for alcohol prohibition for a long time.

Duda, located about 29 kilometers from the Tikamgarh district headquarters, held a panchayat meeting where community members from all backgrounds participated. The consensus was that anyone found drinking in the village would face an ₹11,000 fine, while those involved in manufacturing or selling alcohol would incur a ₹21,000 fine. This decision was reached unanimously during the Sunday panchayat meeting.

According to Hari Singh Lodhi, the village's employment assistant, alcohol consumption had devastated many families, often leading to violence. As a result, the panchayat was convened to discuss prohibition. The village's initiative reflects the ongoing efforts of former Chief Minister Uma Bharti to enforce a ban on alcohol, and now her ancestral village is following suit.

On Monday, a village resident was found drinking in public, prompting the panchayat to convene again, where Sevalal was fined ₹11,000. Lodhi emphasized that the fines collected from violations will be allocated to cleanliness campaigns and the development of the temple. Additionally, the illegal sale of alcohol from neighboring Uttar Pradesh has been completely eradicated, bringing joy to families and particularly to women, who are relieved that their husbands will no longer have access to alcohol.

In Duda, Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh, the Sarpanch Prakash Prajapati confirmed to media, "The Panchayat of all the communities in the village has banned the sale and drinking of liquor. This step will help a lot as the youth will now focus on education...A healthy and safe environment will be established in the village..."
