In Hathras of Uttar Pradesh, the Judicial Inquiry Commission visited the site of stampede to record the statements of eyewitnesses. As many as 123 people lost their lives in a stampede that occurred during a Satsang conducted by 'Bhole Baba', on 2nd July.

Police has thus far named Mukhya Sevadar Madhukar Devprakash as the main accused and he has been sent to 14 days judicial custody. Madhukar was chief organizer of the satsang where preacher Surajpal was healing many thousands of people, mostly marginalized sections.

The issue has gone political as after the local administration, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath but then Rahul Gandhi also visited the site of stampede and met with the family of victims. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has written to CM Yogi Adityanath urging for hike in compensation amount for the victims and their families.
