Haryana Assembly Election, Election Commission reschedules polling date
Election Commission Reschedules Haryana Polling Day to October 5; New Result Date Announced
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the polling date for the Haryana Assembly Elections from October 1 to October 5, 2024. Additionally, the vote counting for the Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana assembly elections will now take place on October 8, instead of the previously scheduled October 4.
This adjustment was made to honor the traditions of the Bishnoi community, which celebrates the Asoj Amavasya festival in remembrance of Guru Jambheshwar. Many Bishnoi families, particularly from Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana, travel to their native village Mukam in Rajasthan for this festival, which falls on October 2 this year. The ECI's decision ensures that these voters will not be deprived of their right to vote due to their festival commitments.
The Commission has historically adjusted election schedules to accommodate the cultural and traditional practices of various communities.
