Gujarat Man Assaults Bank Manager Over TDS on Fixed Deposit, Arrested
A heated dispute over a tax deduction on a fixed deposit escalated into violence at a Union Bank of India branch in Ahmedabad, where a man assaulted the bank manager and another staff member. The incident, captured on video, has gone viral on social media.
Details of the Incident
The altercation occurred on December 5 at the bank's Vastrapur branch. The accused, identified as Jaiman Rawal, approached the bank manager, Saurabh Singh, to complain about Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on the interest from his fixed deposit. Despite being informed that the deducted amount could be claimed while filing his income tax return, Rawal became furious and attacked the manager.
Viral Video Footage
The viral video shows Rawal slapping Singh, pulling his hair, and ripping his shirt during the confrontation. The manager retaliated, leading to a physical brawl where both individuals grabbed each other’s collars. The chaos intensified when Rawal slapped another staff member, Shubham Jain, an insurance company employee who tried to intervene.
An elderly woman present at the scene attempted to separate the two, pulling their arms to diffuse the situation.
Police Action
Following the incident, Singh lodged a complaint against Rawal. The police have charged Rawal under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including:
Section 115-2: Voluntarily causing hurt.
Section 221: Obstructing a public servant from performing their duty.
Section 296: Using obscene language.
According to the police, Rawal not only assaulted the bank manager but also snatched his ID card and tore the shirt of the insurance staffer who tried to mediate.

An official stated, "The accused was upset over the TDS deduction on his fixed deposit interest. Despite being assured that he could reclaim the amount during his tax filing, he resorted to violence.
Legal action has been taken." The incident highlights the rising tensions in customer service interactions and underscores the importance of addressing grievances through lawful means. Rawal remains in custody as the investigation continues.
