Govt notifies revised MGNREGS wages, from Rs 7 in UP to Rs 34 in Goa

Ahead of the national election, the central government has notified a three to ten percent rise in wages under MGNREGS in nominal terms for year 2024-25.

On an average, the MGNREGS wage hike is seen at Rs 28 year on year at Rs 289 for FY25. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced Rs 86,000 crores budget allocation under the scheme for year 2024-25.

The revised notification says that hike in wage rates in states like Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been lowest, at around three percent. While the wage rates have seen steepest hike of 10.6 percent for Goa.

Significant jump in wage rates have been reported in states including Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

MGNREGS, that has over 14 crore registered workers, aims to provide enhancement of livelihood security in rural parts of the country.

The scheme guarantees minimum of 100 days of guaranteed employment in every financial year to every household for adult members who volunteer to do unskilled manual labour.
