Gold worth Rs 10 crores seized, at bus stand, IT officers rush to spot
A significant development has emerged from Raipur, where the police seized approximately ₹10 crore worth of gold at the Bhata Gaon Bus Stand. Along with the seizure, three individuals involved in gold smuggling have been arrested. The case falls under the Tikrapara police station jurisdiction.
According to reports, a large quantity of gold was being transported from Jagdalpur to the Bhata Gaon Bus Stand via a bus. During routine checks, the police apprehended the three suspects involved in the smuggling. Upon receiving the information about the recovery of such a huge amount of gold, Income Tax (IT) officers also arrived at the scene, and the police are interrogating the accused.
Sources suggest that the gold, valued in crores, belongs to several prominent jewellers in the city.
Senior police officials are on-site, leading the investigation, and have notified the Income Tax Department about the incident. This comes after a prior operation where the Income Tax Department seized silver worth ₹8 crore from the same area.
Recently, the Income Tax Department carried out a major raid at the Tikrapara Bus Stand in Raipur, seizing ₹4 crore worth of gold. The department received information regarding suspicious activities, which led to the raid. Before this, authorities had confiscated silver worth ₹8 crore near the Jai Stambh Chowk during vehicle inspections.
The Income Tax team acted based on intelligence that a large amount of gold was being transported to the location. Several suspects have been detained and are being questioned to uncover the source and intended use of the gold. The investigation is ongoing.
