The German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, has made a significant shift towards sustainability by adopting an electric vehicle (EV). He celebrated this milestone with traditional Indian customs by tying 'nimbu-mirchi' (lemon and chili) to his new BMW i7 and smashing a coconut—rituals that symbolize new beginnings and are believed to ward off evil spirits while inviting good luck.

In a statement to ANI, Ackermann emphasized the importance of contributing to pollution reduction, particularly during the winter months when air quality worsens. He expressed his desire for an EV, which led to his headquarters approving the addition of this environmentally friendly vehicle to his official fleet.

The BMW i7, launched in India last year with a price tag of Rs 1.3 crore, is the electric variant of BMW's 7-series luxury sedan. It features dual electric motors, generating a total of 544 horsepower and 745 Nm of torque. This electric limousine can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 239 km/h. Equipped with a 101.7 kWh battery pack, the i7 offers an impressive maximum range of 625 km (according to the WLTP cycle) and can be charged at a maximum rate of 195 kW using a DC fast charger. BMW claims it takes only 34 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80%.
