Gangster Aman Sahu's Petition Rejected by Bilaspur High Court, Planned to Contest Jharkhand Elections

Gangster Aman Sahu's plea to contest the Jharkhand Assembly elections was rejected by the Chhattisgarh High Court, citing his criminal background and ongoing legal cases, including his involvement in a Raipur shooting incident.

The Chhattisgarh High Court has dismissed gangster Aman Sahu's petition in which he sought permission to file his nomination from the Barkagaon assembly constituency in Jharkhand. Sahu had approached the court with a plea to contest the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, but his request was denied by a single bench of Justice Sachin Singh Rajput.

Sahu, currently in police custody, had filed the petition requesting the court to allow him to participate in the election process. He has been under arrest for his alleged involvement in firing at a businessman in Raipur. Despite being in custody, he sought permission to file his nomination for the Barkagaon seat. The last date for filing nominations for the Jharkhand Assembly elections is October 25, but Sahu's hopes to contest have been dashed with the court’s decision.

Aman Sahu, a notorious gangster from Jharkhand, was arrested by Raipur police in connection with a firing incident in the Telibandha area of Raipur. The police allege that Sahu had hired a shooter from Haryana to attack a businessman in Raipur. Sahu and several accomplices were arrested, and he remains in custody under police remand until October 25. On Tuesday, Sahu was presented in court, and after hearing both sides, the court granted police three more days of remand for further investigation.

Sahu has been involved in several criminal cases, including the one registered at the Ganj police station in Raipur. Eight other suspects, including the shooter, have already been arrested in connection with the case, and all are currently held in Raipur jail. Sources indicate that Sahu had established a local criminal network while in jail and enlisted local criminals in his gang, eventually leading to the attack on the businessman.

Despite his criminal background, Sahu attempted to enter electoral politics, filing a petition in the Chhattisgarh High Court seeking permission to contest the Jharkhand Assembly elections. He claimed in his petition that he wished to contest from the Barkagaon constituency and asked the court to allow him to file his nomination. However, the court dismissed the petition, stating that an individual with ongoing criminal proceedings cannot be allowed to participate in the election process.

The court emphasized that Sahu's involvement in serious criminal activities disqualifies him from participating in elections. The court made it clear that no person with a criminal background should be allowed to enter the political arena, regardless of their ambitions. This decision reiterates the judiciary's stance on barring individuals with criminal records from contesting elections, as it undermines the sanctity of the democratic process.
