In Ahmedabad, a bizarre case of fraud has emerged from the Sarrafa market, where con artists made off with gold worth ₹1.90 crore. The culprits absconded with 2,100 grams of gold after paying the jewelers with counterfeit currency featuring Bollywood actor Anupam Kher's photo. Upon seeing the fake notes, the jewelers were left in disbelief and promptly reported the incident to the police, who have since launched an investigation to apprehend the suspects. The incident occurred on CG Road when three individuals used 26 bundles of fake ₹500 notes, which had Anupam Kher's image instead of Mahatma Gandhi's, to purchase the gold. The Crime Branch is currently analyzing CCTV footage to track down the trio involved.Mehul Thakkar, a jeweler, was approached by the manager of Laxmi Jewelers to provide 2,100 grams of gold. Thakkar sent his employee Bharat Joshi to deliver the gold. Upon arrival, Joshi was handed a counting machine by one man while another took the gold. The third individual instructed Joshi to wait for an additional ₹30 lakh from another office. While Joshi was distracted, the three men fled with the gold. When he examined the bag later, he discovered that all the ₹500 notes were counterfeit, with "Resole Bank of India" printed instead of "Reserve Bank of India."Upon realizing they had been duped, Thakkar and Laxmi Jewelers' manager rushed to inform nearby shopkeepers and learned that no such angadia firm existed in the area. Following this revelation, Thakkar filed a complaint at the Navrangpura police station. The police are now reviewing nearby CCTV footage as part of their investigation into this unusual case of fraud involving counterfeit currency and a fictitious angadia firm.
