Former corporator attacked, video goes viral, police launches search for assailants
Pune's Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma has confirmed that former NCP corporator Vanraj Andekar was attacked with a sharp weapon before being shot five times by assailants. The murder occurred on Sunday night, September 1, around 9:45 PM. The incident is being investigated as potentially linked to gang warfare, though the police are also exploring the possibility of a family dispute.
Immediately following the shooting, Andekar was rushed to KEM Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Andekar's family has had longstanding connections with gangs, which raises suspicions of a possible family feud behind the murder. However, the police have yet to release an official statement.
The shocking incident took place in the Nana Peth area of Pune, where Andekar was staying at the time. The attackers used a pistol to fire multiple rounds, creating panic in the area. Prior to the shooting, there was a power outage in the vicinity of the attack.
The Pune Crime Branch and other teams are actively searching for the perpetrators. Initial investigations indicate that Andekar was attacked with sharp weapons before being shot. Police have detained three individuals in connection with the case and are questioning them, suspecting that the motive might be related to family disputes or financial issues. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made so far.
