Former Chief Minister vacates CM residence, moves to new address, with parents
Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has officially vacated his CM's residence at 6 Flagstaff Road and moved to a new address at Bungalow No. 5 on Ferozeshah Road in Lutyens' Delhi. This transition comes just days after his resignation from the Chief Minister's position. Kejriwal will reside with his family in this bungalow, which is situated close to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters and was previously assigned to the party's Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, Ashok Mittal.
At a press conference, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj announced, “Kejriwal will move into 5, Ferozeshah Road, which is the residence of AAP MP Ashok Mittal.” He added that numerous party leaders, including MPs, MLAs, and councillors, had offered their homes to Kejriwal after he decided to leave the Chief Minister's residence, where he had lived since 2015.
In a video message, Mittal expressed his delight at Kejriwal choosing his residence. “When he resigned as Chief Minister, I learned that he had nowhere to stay... I invited him to be my guest at my Delhi residence, and I’m overjoyed that he accepted my offer,” Mittal shared.
Kejriwal had previously mentioned that he would vacate the Chief Minister's residence during the auspicious Navratri period, which commenced on Thursday. His resignation followed his release on bail related to the Delhi liquor policy case, and he has stated that he will return to the position only after receiving a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi in the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for February next year.
Having spent nearly six months in Tihar Jail over alleged irregularities in the 2021-22 Delhi liquor policy, Kejriwal and his party have consistently refuted the charges, accusing the BJP of pursuing a political vendetta.
