In a tragic incident, five Indian Army soldiers lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries when their vehicle fell into a 350-foot-deep gorge in the Balnoi area of Mendhar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday. The accident occurred while the vehicle was traveling from Nilam Headquarters to the Balnoi Ghora Post as part of a six-vehicle convoy.

Accident Details

The accident took place around 5:20 PM, reportedly due to the driver losing control at a sharp turn. The vehicle, carrying ten Army personnel, veered off the road and plunged into the steep gorge. The 11 Madras Light Infantry (11 MLI) unit immediately deployed its Quick Reaction Team to the site for rescue operations.

The injured soldiers were provided first aid and evacuated to the nearest medical facility for further treatment. Officials confirmed that no terrorist activity was involved, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

On November 2, a civilian vehicle accident in Reasi district claimed the lives of three people, including a woman and her 10-month-old son, while leaving three others critically injured.

Ongoing Rescue Operations

Efforts to recover the vehicle and ensure the safety of the injured soldiers are ongoing. The Indian Army has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of its personnel during operational duties in the challenging terrain of Jammu and Kashmir.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by soldiers even during routine operations. The nation mourns the loss of these bravehearts and prays for the recovery of those injured.
