First visuals of Modi Zelensky meet, hugs and pat on shoulder, major respite for Biden administration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky embrace during Modi's historic visit to Kyiv, highlighting India's neutral position in the Ukraine

The world including United States and Russia is watching as Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv in what is indeed a first visit of an Indian Premier to the former Soviet state. As PM Modi does with other leaders around the world, he embraced Ukrainian leader and was seen later with his hand on Zelensky's shoulder like a friend.

The visuals have gone world over creating the perception that India is indeed neutral in the ongoing conflict and that the Indian leader is consistent in wanting peace and stability for the region so that food, fuel and fertiliser related difficulties around the global south gets mitigated.

The embrace of Zelensky comes amid the fact that India has now surpassed China and becoming top buyer of Russian oil.

The move brings about much needed respite for the Americans who felt humiliated at the Modi's Russia visit, especially when NATO nations gathering was taking place in Washington. PM Modi's visit to Ukraine is being seen, atleast in the West, as some sort of favour to the Americans, especially for the Biden administration, who can atleast point to these visuals and pics of Modi Zelensky and claim foreign policy success.

PM Modi is known to take care of friends and now that President Biden is not even a candidate in the Presidential race while staring at retirement from active politics, a visit to Ukraine brings about feel of success to the incumbent administration.
