First Presidential debate now confirmed, Trump-Harris to appear on ABC, on Sept 10
ABC News has confirmed that it will host the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris on September 10. The announcement came after Trump expressed his willingness to engage in multiple debates with Harris before the November election. Trump suggested holding three debates in total, with the others to be hosted by Fox News and NBC.
Kamala Harris, who replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee after his withdrawal from the race, confirmed her participation in the ABC debate while speaking at an event in Michigan. She also indicated her openness to additional debates.
The debate will be moderated by David Muir, anchor and managing editor of World News Tonight, and Linsey Davis, anchor of ABC News Live Prime. Harris expressed her anticipation, stating, "I am looking forward to debating Donald Trump on September 10. I hear he’s finally committed to it."
Trump, who previously debated President Biden in June, saw the landscape shift after Biden's withdrawal, paving the way for Harris to become the Democratic nominee. The confirmation of the ABC debate concludes a period of uncertainty and negotiations between the Trump and Harris campaigns following Biden's exit.
In a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump also proposed two additional debates on September 4 on Fox News and September 25 on NBC. Meanwhile, CBS is reportedly planning a debate between the vice-presidential nominees, Republican JD Vance and Democrat Tim Walz. While NBC is in talks for a potential autumn debate, Fox News has already sent formal invitations for a September debate in Pennsylvania.
As anticipation builds, this debate will mark the first head-to-head confrontation between Trump and Harris in a race that has already seen significant shifts.
