Fielded from Andheri West in Maharashtra election, Congress leader has reservations, know more
Despite being named as the Congress candidate for Andheri West in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, Sachin Sawant has expressed reservations about contesting from this seat. Congress released its third candidate list on October 26, which included Sawant’s name. However, the Maharashtra Congress General Secretary clarified his preference to run from Bandra East, an area he has previously served.
In an interview with ANI, Sawant shared, “I had hoped to represent Bandra East, where I have worked extensively. I did not request the Andheri West ticket, and I have humbly appealed to the party leadership, expressing my reluctance to contest from this constituency.” Despite his reservations, Sawant emphasized his commitment to the party’s decision, leaving the final call to the Congress high command.
Loyalty to Congress and Support for MVA Alliance
Sawant reiterated that his stance is not out of dissatisfaction but stems from a personal belief in representing the areas he has served directly. He stated, “I am a loyal Congress worker, and I want the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance to remain strong. Our primary goal is to defeat the ruling Mahayuti alliance.”
The Andheri West seat was allocated to Congress as part of the seat-sharing agreement within the MVA alliance, which divides 85 seats each among Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP. The nomination process for the 288 assembly seats has commenced, with voting scheduled for November 20 and results to be announced on November 23.
