Fake Currency Racket Busted in Baloda Bazar: ₹2.32 Lakh in Counterfeit Notes Seized

Fake Currency

Police in Chhattisgarh’s Baloda Bazar district achieved a significant breakthrough by uncovering a fake currency racket and arresting two individuals involved in printing and circulating counterfeit notes. Authorities seized ₹2,32,400 in fake currency along with equipment used for printing.

Operation Details

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid near the District Cooperative Bank in the Lavana market area on December 7, 2024. They apprehended two suspects, Bhuwan Sahu (25) and Tushar Sahu (26), who were found in possession of counterfeit notes in denominations of ₹500, ₹200, and ₹100, totaling ₹6,400.

Modus Operandi

The suspects revealed during interrogation that they were operating with an accomplice to print fake currency using a color printer and specialized printing paper. After manufacturing the notes, they attempted to circulate them in local markets.

Raids in Raipur

Based on the suspects' disclosures, police raided their rented residence in Vinayak Nagar, Raipur. This operation resulted in the recovery of ₹2,26,000 in fake notes, printing machines, and other materials used to produce the counterfeit currency. One of their accomplices is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to locate him.

Demonstration of Techniques

During interrogation, the accused demonstrated how they replicated ₹500 notes. Using a color printer, they produced high-quality photocopies and enhanced the fake notes’ appearance by applying plastic tape to mimic authenticity.

Criminal Background

Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek Singh stated that both suspects have prior criminal records and are habitual offenders. Their arrest has provided significant leads about their network, which the police are actively investigating to trace the racket's reach and connections.

Legal Action and Further Investigations

The duo has been booked under multiple sections, including IPC Sections 178, 180, and 181, as well as Section 3(5) of the BNS Act. Both have been remanded to police custody for further investigation. The authorities are also scrutinizing their equipment and probing links to larger counterfeit networks.

Impact of the Operation

This crackdown is expected to deal a significant blow to the counterfeit currency trade in the region. Police officials believe the seizure of ₹2.32 lakh in fake notes and the confiscation of printing machinery will deter similar operations in the future.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang and dismantle their network entirely.
