Election Commission to demand CAPFs in view parliamentary, multiple state elections

With the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the polls in the legislative assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim, the Election Commission has sought from the Ministry of Home Affairs a maximum of around 3,400 companies (3.40 lakh) of Central Armed Police Forces in all states and Union Territories in a phased manner to ensure the conduct of free, fair and peaceful elections.

There is likelihood that Election Commission of India might announce Lok Sabha poll schedule by March of this year. Which would imply that election code of conduct will come into force then.

Meanwhile, Anup Chandra Pandey demitted office on Wednesday as an election commissioner on attaining the age of 65. With this, there is now a vacancy in the three member Election Commission of India.
