Elderly couple commit suicide, allege harassment by son, daughter-in-law
An elderly couple in Rajasthan's Nagaur district reportedly died by suicide, leaving behind a note accusing their sons and daughters-in-law of harassment over property disputes. The couple, identified as 70-year-old Hazariram Bishnoi and his 68-year-old wife Chawali Devi, were found dead in a water tank at their home in Karni Colony on Thursday, according to local police.
Concerned neighbors, who had not seen the couple for two days, informed one of their sons, who then contacted the police. Upon arrival, officers discovered the open water tank with the couple's bodies floating inside. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examinations.
A suicide note was found pasted on the walls of their home, in which Bishnoi accused his sons, daughters-in-law, and other relatives of harassing them over property issues. Kotwali police station's Station House Officer, Manish Dev, confirmed that the autopsy of Bishnoi's body had been completed, while the examination of his wife’s body was scheduled for Friday.
The police have launched an investigation into the case based on the allegations in the note. Further inquiries are ongoing.
