Eight terrorists neutralized, two soldiers killed in action, in Kulgam district

As many as eight Pakistan sponsored terrorists killed in Modergam and Chinnigam Frisal of Kulgam, South Kashmir in two separate encounters between terrorists and security forces. Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police as well as CRPF are said to be involved in the anti terror move. One Indian Army Jawan killed in action with one more casualty.

According to a statement issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, a cordon and search operation was initiated earlier today based on specific inputs. The terrorists, including a senior commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed and two Army jawans lost their lives in ongoing anti-terror operations in the Chingam and Modergam areas of Kulgam district.

It is learnt that among the eliminated terrorists is Farooq Ahmad Bhat, also known as Nali, a long-serving member of the Hizbul Mujahideen. High beam lights have been installed to prevent the escape of terrorists from the encounter spots, it was said.

The operation began in Modergam following credible intelligence reports indicating the presence of at least two terrorists in the area. During the initial exchange of gunfire, a soldier sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to his wounds, as confirmed by a senior police official.
