In Bijapur, eight Naxalites have surrendered simultaneously, including three who have bounties on their heads totaling ₹11 lakh. The Bijapur police confirmed this information, noting that 2024 has seen consistent success for security forces in combating Naxalism in the region. On September 21, another achievement was marked when these individuals chose to surrender, influenced by the government’s policy for Naxal eradication.

Bijapur SP Jitendra Yadav confirmed that among the surrendered Naxalites, one is a female member, and they had been active in the Usur and Pamed areas. Notably, Chander Kursam, the commander of the Maoist Platoon Number 12, is among them, with a bounty of ₹8 lakh. He has been linked to the banned Naxal organization since 2003 and was involved in the 2008 Modakpal-Tunkigutta Naxal attack, which resulted in the death of 10 security personnel.

The female cadre, Mangli Potam, was part of Platoon Number 2, while Ayatu Korsa led the Manekeli Janatana government group, with bounties of ₹2 lakh and ₹1 lakh, respectively.

The surrendered Naxalites will benefit from Chhattisgarh’s Naxal rehabilitation policy, receiving ₹25,000 each as financial assistance. This year alone, 178 Naxalites have surrendered in Bijapur, and a total of 378 have been arrested through various operations and actions.
