Eight Kanwariyas die, others critical, due to electrocution in Bihar's Hajipur
In a tragic incident in Bihar's Vaishali, at least eight Kanwariyas lost their lives when their DJ trolley came into contact with a high-tension wire. The group was on their way to Pahelaja Ghat for a religious ritual when the accident occurred, leaving several others in critical condition.
The devastating accident happened during the Kanwar Yatra when the DJ vehicle touched an 11,000-volt electricity wire. The incident took place in the Hajipur Industrial Police Station area, resulting in the deaths of at least eight Kanwariyas, including a minor, and injuring more than a dozen others.
The group, consisting of youths from Sultanpur village, was en route to Pahelaja Ghat in Saran to collect 'Gangajal' for 'Jalabhishek' at Sonpur Baba Hariharnath temple. Their journey, filled with enthusiasm and music from the DJ trolley, turned tragic when the vehicle's upper part came into contact with the high-tension wire. Eight Kanwariyas died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
Despite administrative confirmation of eight deaths, local villagers report that ten people have lost their lives in the incident. Om Prakash, Sadar SDPO, confirmed the details, stating, "The DJ vehicle's loudspeaker was operating at high volume and was too close to the power lines, causing the trolley to get entangled in the 11,000-volt wire. Eight people have been confirmed dead, and several others are receiving medical care."
The incident has prompted a response from local authorities, who are investigating the cause and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences. All the injured were admitted to Hajipur Sadar Hospital. The victims were residents of Sultanpur village under the Industrial Police Station area of Hajipur. They first reached Pahelaja Ghat to collect water and were on their way to Baba Hariharnath temple when the accident occurred.
