Lucknow Building Collapse

In Lucknow's Sarojini Nagar area, a three-story building that collapsed on Saturday was constructed only about four years ago. As of now, the death toll has risen to eight, with rescue operations ongoing by NDRF and SDRF teams. The collapse occurred late at night, and the bodies of three more victims were recovered from the debris, increasing the number of fatalities.

A police official reported that the building, which had recently undergone construction, had a column with a visible crack. Following heavy rain on Saturday evening, the incident happened around 4:45 PM, while many of the victims were working on the ground floor. The building housed a motor workshop and warehouse on the ground floor, a medical warehouse on the first floor, and a cutlery warehouse on the second floor.

Relief Commissioner G.S. Naveen confirmed that the SDRF recovered the bodies of Raj Kishore (27), Rudra Yadav (24), and Jagroop Singh (35) from the debris. Earlier, the bodies of Dheeraj Gupta (48), Pankaj Tiwari (40), Arun Sonkar (28), Rakesh Lakhanpal (67), and Jaspreet Singh Sahni (41) were recovered. According to PTI, a senior district official stated that the focus is now on ensuring no one else is trapped under the rubble. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals, including Lok Bandhu Hospital.

The incident underscores the urgent need for structural safety checks and regulations to prevent such tragedies.
