ED Summons to Kawasi Lakhma: Former Excise Minister Faces Increasing Troubles Over Alleged Liquor Scam

Kawasi Lakhma

The troubles for former Chhattisgarh Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma seem to be mounting, as he has once again been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged liquor scam in the state.

Lakhma is expected to appear at the ED office today, where officials will question him regarding the ongoing investigation. The ED has previously interrogated Lakhma and his associates in the same case.

The investigation pertains to a reported ₹2,000 crore scam linked to the illegal liquor syndicate that allegedly operated during the tenure of the Bhupesh Baghel-led government.

According to reports, several political leaders and officials were involved in orchestrating the scam through an unlawful syndicate, which is said to have functioned under government directives.

The ED’s findings suggest that Kawasi Lakhma, as the then-Excise Minister, was aware of the operations and reportedly received a significant share of the commission from the scam.

The ED had earlier registered an FIR through the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which highlighted the large-scale corruption and involvement of high-profile individuals.

As Lakhma prepares for another round of questioning, the political and legal ramifications of this case continue to escalate, casting a shadow over the state's political landscape.
