Dramatic scenes on busy crossing, how police got hold of thief, watch
On Tuesday, a dramatic scene unfolded on a busy street in Bengaluru, reminiscent of a Bollywood thriller. A police constable put his life on the line by jumping in front of a two-wheeler to apprehend a thief. The entire incident was captured on CCTV.
The footage shows Constable Dodda Lingayya, dressed in plain clothes, leaping in front of the vehicle on the crowded road. The thief, Manjesh, who has 75 cases registered against him, initially stopped the bike but then sped away, dragging the constable for about 20 meters.
Despite holding onto the thief's collar, the constable lost his grip momentarily but did not give up. He made another bold attempt by grabbing the thief's leg while he continued to drive. Eventually, the thief lost control of the scooter due to the constable's determined efforts.
Traffic police nearby noticed the commotion and rushed to assist. Although the thief managed to escape from one officer, he was caught by another. Several passersby also intervened, apprehending the thief and giving him a thorough beating, causing traffic to come to a halt.
The police later revealed that Manjesh had fled from Tumakuru district to Bengaluru, and had been under surveillance. He has been arrested, and the police recovered ₹10,000 in cash and 130 grams of gold jewelry from him.
