Speaking in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh after meeting the bereaved families of the stampede accident, Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi says, "A lot of families have been affected and many people have died... I dont want to politicise this. There have been deficiencies in the system... I think they should get more compensation as these are very poor families. I request the CM of UP to provide compensation open-heartedly... They need it now, more compensation should be given as soon as possible... The family members said that the police arrangement was not enough..."

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, on Friday morning, reached Hathras to meet with the families of the people affected by the July 2 stampede.

The religious 'satsang' event in Fulari village claimed 123 people and many remain injured and under treatment. It was the event of self-styled godman Suraj Pal alias 'Bhole Baba', who has not yet emerged in the public domain since the incident.

Many who lost their loved ones in the stampede complained to Rahul Gandhi of inadequate police presence and medical services at the venue. A three-member Judicial Inquiry Commission under the chairmanship of Justice (retd) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava has been constituted to ensure comprehensiveness of the subject matter and transparency in the inquiry.
