Dogs attack multiple people in Gorakhpur residential colony, authorities wake up to act
In the past three days, 24 residents of Block B in the Shahpur Housing Development Colony, Gorakhpur, have been injured in dog attacks. Fearful of the aggressive stray dogs, residents have been avoiding leaving their homes since Wednesday. In response to the situation, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Singh Sogarwal has directed a team to capture the stray dogs.
On Wednesday night, Anand Srivastava from Block B was attacked by a dog that bit him multiple times, leaving him injured. He was initially referred to BRD Medical College when the district hospital did not have anti-rabies vaccines. Since the college also lacked the vaccine, he had to obtain it from a private hospital. The following night, Ashish Yadav was attacked by a dog while talking on his phone in his courtyard, resulting in injuries to his face and other body parts. The incident was captured on CCTV, increasing the residents' anxiety.
Dr. Sandeep Kumar Sharma, stationed at the Army Hospital in Deoria, was also bitten by a dog while visiting Shahpur Housing Development Colony. Since Wednesday evening and throughout Thursday, the dog attacks have left individuals such as Ashish Yadav, Balmani Reddy, Neha, Tuk Tuk, and others injured. The situation has caused such fear that parents are keeping their children home from school, and elderly residents are avoiding their daily walks.
Local councilors claim that they had already requested the Municipal Commissioner to address the stray dog problem a week ago. Chandrashekhar Singh, a representative of the local councilor, visited the colony to check on the injured residents.
Disturbing CCTV footage from Gorakhpur shows a rabid dog attacking 17 people, including children and women, in a single hour on August 14. The footage from a camera outside Ashish Yadav's home captures the dog attacking him while he was talking on his phone.
