DMK MP Responds in Tamil to Union Minister’s Hindi Letter, Says He Didn't Understand

DMK Rajya Sabha MP Pudukkottai MM Abdulla replied to a Hindi-language letter from Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, stating he couldn't understand it. Abdulla had earlier raised concerns about food quality and cleanliness on trains, to which Bittu responded in Hindi. In his Tamil reply, Abdulla noted he had repeatedly informed the Minister’s office of his preference for communication in English, as he doesn’t understand Hindi. Sharing the letters on social media, Abdulla mentioned he had requested communications be sent in English, a request that had gone unheeded.

Abdulla's post on X implied, “I have responded in a language he would understand and act upon.” He reiterated his request for future communication to be in English.

The incident recalls previous statements from DMK leaders opposing Hindi imposition, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s 2022 remarks criticizing Hindi as a substitute for English or regional languages, arguing it would threaten national unity.
