Demands of Chhattisgarh Cooperative Society Employees Union Fulfilled; Employees End Nine-Day Protest

Chhattisgarh

The demands of the Chhattisgarh Cooperative Society Employees Union have been fulfilled, ending a nine-day protest by cooperative society employees. On the auspicious day of Devuthani Ekadashi, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai agreed to the union’s demands. Following this, union members announced an end to their strike, which had been ongoing at Gandhi Maidan for the past nine days. The Vishnu Deo Sai administration accepted the union’s three-point demand, bringing the employees’ protest to a close. The employees, who had been on strike since November 4, expressed joy and gratitude towards the government for resolving their issues.

The end of the Chhattisgarh Cooperative Society Employees Union's strike brings significant relief to farmers, as paddy procurement across Chhattisgarh is set to begin on November 14. Cooperative societies are responsible for managing the procurement, and a prolonged strike could have disrupted the process. This year, farmers will not need to line up for procurement tokens, as the distribution of tokens has begun today.

Union President Narendra Sahu expressed satisfaction with the government’s response, stating, "Our three-point demands have been accepted. On this auspicious day, when Lord Vishnu is believed to awaken from his slumber, the Chief Minister has fulfilled our demands. We extend our gratitude to the government and officially announce the end of our protest." Sahu is scheduled to meet CM Vishnu Deo Sai, and the union's key demands include:

1. A managerial grant of ₹3 lakh per year, similar to the provision in Madhya Pradesh.
2. Implementation of revised pay scales with partial amendments to the Service Rules 2018.
3. Compensation for paddy drying losses during transportation in 2023 and 2024, along with a fourfold increase in all commissions.

The union expressed satisfaction with these resolutions, marking a positive turn for both cooperative employees and the state's farmers.
