Demand raised for renaming of Ramnagar to Bengaluru South, BJP slams ruling party move

BJP has slammed the Karnataka government to rename Ramnagar

BJP has slammed the Karnataka government to rename Ramnagar to Bengaluru South. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla says, "Today, the Congress' Hindu hatred and anti-Ram mindset has reached a crescendo... Rahul Gandhi recently said that they defeated the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Now DK Shivakumar does not even like the name of Ramnagar because it is named after Shri Ram... How long will the Congress keep abusing Hindus?..."

This after a delegation led by Deputy CM DK Shivakumar urged CM Siddaramaiah to rename Ramanagar district as Bengaluru South. BJP has objected by alleging that the move is only aimed at hiking up real estate prices.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar represents the Kanakapura assembly seat in Ramnagar district. He emphasized that the proposed name change for Ramnagar aims to elevate the taluks within it to the stature enjoyed by Bengaluru city.

Shivakumar clarified that the intention is not to seek a separate district but solely a name change, with Ramnagar continuing as the district headquarters. Renaming Ramnagar to Bengaluru South District, he asserted, would foster industrial growth not only in Mysuru district but also in Channapatna and Magadi taluks.
