Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali, a key figure associated with the Pune ISIS module and carrying a bounty of Rs 3 lakh, was apprehended by the Delhi Police Special Cell on Friday. Ali, who had been on the run since escaping Pune police custody, was one of the most wanted individuals within this terrorist group.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had issued a warrant for his arrest, as Ali had been involved in reconnaissance missions targeting high-profile locations in Delhi and Mumbai, along with his accomplices. Weapons were found in his possession during the arrest.
This arrest adds to the list of several members of the Pune ISIS module who have been previously detained by the NIA and Pune Police. The NIA had earlier filed charges against 11 accused in connection with a July 2023 case involving the seizure of arms, explosives, and ISIS-related materials in Pune. Ali was included in a supplementary chargesheet filed in March this year, alongside three other individuals.
These accused were reportedly in contact with their handlers abroad through secret communication channels and were engaged in fundraising activities through armed robberies and thefts to support their terror operations. Ali's arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing crackdown on the ISIS-linked module in India.
