Deepthi Jeevanji bags bronze at Paris Paralympics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Deepthi Jeevanji for her outstanding achievement of winning a bronze medal in the women’s 400m T20 final at the Paris Paralympics on September 3. Modi lauded her perseverance and determination, recognizing her as a symbol of national pride.
Jeevanji’s bronze was a highlight on Day 6 of the Paralympics, marking India’s third track medal of the event. She completed the race in 55.82 seconds, finishing behind Ukraine’s Yulia Shuliar and Turkey’s Aysel Onder, the latter of whom holds the world record. Jeevanji had an impressive start, reacting quickly at 0.164 seconds, and maintained a strong pace throughout the race. Despite a fierce effort, she narrowly missed the silver, finishing just 0.66 seconds behind the gold medalist.
PM Modi took to social media, expressing his admiration for Jeevanji's achievement: "Congratulations to Deepthi Jeevanji for her spectacular Bronze medal win in the Women's 400M T20 at #Paralympics2024! She is a source of inspiration for countless people. Her skills and tenacity are commendable."
Jeevanji, who previously set a world record in May 2024 with a time of 55.07 seconds at the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan, showcased her resilience and determination once again in Paris. Although her record was later broken by Aysel Onder, who clocked 54.96 seconds to win silver, Jeevanji's performance remains a testament to her exceptional talent.
Despite being on an official visit to Brunei, Prime Minister Modi took the time to personally congratulate the medalists, including Yogesh Kathuniya, Sumit Antil, Sheetal Devi, and Rakesh Kumar, via telephone, further demonstrating his support and encouragement for India’s Paralympians.
