Cylinder Checks Now Mandatory at Maha Kumbh, Strict Action After Recent Fire Outbreak

Maha Kumbh

To ensure the safety of devotees and pilgrims during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh, the Food and Civil Supplies Department organized a special meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting concluded with the decision to make cylinder checks mandatory in the mela area. This step was taken following two incidents of fire that occurred during the Mela on Sunday and Monday.

When Did the Incidents Occur?

On Monday, a fire broke out near the Kinnar Akhada in Sector-16. Fortunately, there were no casualties. On Sunday, a cylinder explosion in Sector-19 led to a fire that engulfed 18 tents.

Strict Instructions for Cylinder Checks

The meeting on Tuesday saw the participation of representatives from the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Fire Brigade, LPG cylinder distributors, and gas companies. It was decided that technical assistants would conduct cylinder checks.

If any cylinder is found to have a leakage, its supply will be immediately stopped. The gas cylinders, pipes, and regulators will also be checked, and if they do not meet the required standards, they will be replaced.

Additionally, technical assistants will be deployed at the Mela to take immediate action in case of any emergency. A maximum of 100 kilograms of gas will be allowed in the Mela area, and strict action will be taken against the misuse of domestic LPG cylinders or the illegal sale of gas cylinders.

Increased Vigilance by Authorities

After the fire incidents on Sunday and Monday, the administration has heightened its vigilance. On Monday, when smoke was spotted near the Kinnar Akhada in Sector-16 around 9:30 AM, fire station personnel immediately alerted the control room.

However, before the fire brigade arrived, people managed to extinguish the fire using water and sand. The government has assigned LPG distributors and officials with the responsibility of monitoring gas supply, and strict action will be taken against agencies that violate the regulations.
