**Cyclone Asna Set to Form Over Arabian Sea: IMD Issues Rare August Storm Alert for Gujarat**

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about the formation of Cyclone Asna, a rare event for August, over the Arabian Sea. This would be the first such cyclone since 1976 and only the fourth on record since 1891. The cyclone is expected to emerge as a deep depression over the Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat on Friday before moving towards the Oman coast.

Cyclones in the Arabian Sea during August are extremely uncommon, with the last occurrence in 1976 when a storm formed over Odisha, crossed into the Arabian Sea, and eventually weakened near Oman. IMD meteorologists have observed that the sustained intensity of this tropical storm is unusual, with anticyclones over the Tibetan Plateau and the Arabian Peninsula contributing to its strength. The Saurashtra and Kutch regions have already experienced heavy rainfall, receiving 86% more than the seasonal average due to the deep depression.

In addition to Cyclone Asna, another low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify by Friday, potentially developing into a depression by Sunday as it moves towards the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.
