Crucial statement on Waqf (Amendment) Bill, TDP leader speaks of 'Muslim interests'

TDP senior leader Nawab Jaan has made a significant statement regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, vowing to prevent any legislation that would harm Muslim interests. Amid opposition from various Muslim organizations, Nawab Jaan assured that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would not allow the implementation of any bill that adversely affects Muslims.

Speaking at the 'Save the Constitution Conference' organized by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Nawab Jaan urged unity to stop the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 from passing in Parliament.

Nawab Jaan reiterated Chandrababu Naidu’s secular outlook, stating, "Naidu often says he has two eyes—one Hindu and one Muslim. Any harm to one eye affects the whole body, and we must remember this as we progress." He highlighted that under Naidu’s leadership, Muslims have received unprecedented support and assured that any bill harming them will not be implemented.

Nawab Jaan claimed that it was only due to Chandrababu Naidu’s efforts that the Waqf Amendment Bill was referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). He emphasized that Naidu believes each institution, whether Muslim, Hindu, or Christian, should be dedicated to its respective faith. "We will tolerate anything, but we will not tolerate any attempt to harm the unity of the country," Jaan asserted.

In a bid to amplify opposition to the Waqf Amendment, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind called on leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar to consider the sentiments of Muslims in this matter.
