It appears that Congress is now eyeing the vote bank of Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and this could very well increase tension between the two parties claiming to be together in grand opposition alliance against BJP.
Congress in Uttar Pradesh under new chief Ajay Rai has now gone as far as to claim that grand old party is natural home for Muslims. This he said while resolving that Congress would strive for senior leader Azam Khan despite the fact that he is a Samajwadi Party leader.
Now the rift between Samajwadi Party and Congress could widen as the Muslim vote had gone en masse to the Akhilesh Yadav’s party in the last state election.
Congress is eyeing to induct more Muslim leaders to woo the Muslim vote to expand its presence in one of the politically significant state of India.
