Concealed camera in women’s hostel washroom, police swings into action after protests erupt
A distressing incident has surfaced at an engineering college in Andhra Pradesh, where a hidden camera was reportedly found in the women’s hostel washroom, allegedly recording and leaking videos of students. The footage was allegedly sold to other students, sparking outrage.
Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh has ordered an investigation into the incident at Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Krishna district. He assured strict action against those responsible and directed officials to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The concealed camera was allegedly discovered by a group of female students, triggering alarm and prompting a protest that began around 7 pm and lasted through the night. The students, demanding justice, chanted slogans and called for accountability.
In response, the police arrested a senior student from the boys' hostel, seizing his laptop and mobile phone. However, no leaked videos were found during the investigation.
Krishna District SP Gangadhar Rao stated that no hidden cameras were found in the girls' hostel during their probe. He reassured students that further investigations are ongoing.
The presence of the hidden camera has left many female students feeling unsafe and uncomfortable, with some avoiding the washroom facilities altogether. Despite the college administration’s claims of no hidden cameras being found, students remain concerned about their safety and privacy on campus.
As the protest continued, Krishna District Collector DK Balaji and Superintendent of Police Gangadhar Rao visited the institute, promising additional security measures and a thorough investigation.
