CM Fadnavis Slams Congress Over Ambedkar Issue: "Congress Should Apologize to the Nation"

Mumbai, Maharashtra – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis strongly criticized the Congress party, accusing it of repeatedly disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and distorting Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statements in Parliament. In a press conference held on Wednesday, CM Fadnavis demanded that Congress apologize to the nation for its alleged historical and ongoing treatment of Ambedkar.
"Congress Fears Anyone Surpassing Nehru-Gandhi Legacy"
Fadnavis alleged that the Congress party consistently tries to suppress anyone who could overshadow the legacy of the Nehru-Gandhi family. “Congress is afraid that someone’s stature may surpass that of the Nehru-Gandhi family. This is why they have repeatedly disrespected Dr. Ambedkar, not letting him win elections and continually undermining his contributions,” Fadnavis stated.
He further accused Congress of manipulating Amit Shah's speech in Parliament, saying, "The Opposition has distorted the Home Minister's statements to mislead the public. BJP and Amit Shah would never, even in their dreams, disrespect Ambedkar."
EVM Debate Rekindled
Fadnavis also addressed the issue of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), accusing Congress of hypocrisy. He said, “Congress knows that EVMs are tamper-proof. Yet, when they lose elections, they blame the EVMs, and when they win, they call it a victory for democracy. This double standard exposes their true nature.”
He cited remarks by leaders from other parties, including Omar Abdullah and Mamata Banerjee, who have urged Congress to stop criticizing EVMs. Fadnavis quipped, “It’s easy to wake someone who is asleep, but not someone pretending to sleep.”
Ambedkar’s Legacy Ignored by Congress
Highlighting Congress's alleged neglect of Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy, Fadnavis said, “Many were awarded Bharat Ratna by Congress, but they ignored Ambedkar, a true gem of India. They did not develop memorials at places where Ambedkar’s statues stood and failed to allocate even a needle-sized space for a memorial after his demise.”
Fadnavis urged the Congress to reflect on its history and apologize for its treatment of Ambedkar. He concluded, “The BJP respects Ambedkar deeply and will continue to honor his legacy.”
This sharp attack on Congress comes amidst ongoing political debates, with Fadnavis asserting BJP’s commitment to preserving the contributions of iconic leaders like Ambedkar while accusing Congress of distorting history for political gain.
