Chief Minister Atishi Breaks Down Over Ramesh Bidhuri’s Controversial Remarks, Watch here

Chief Minister Atishi

New Delhi, January 6, 2025 Delhi Chief Minister Atishi was visibly emotional on Sunday following BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s reported objectionable remarks during a public gathering in the national capital.

Bidhuri, the BJP candidate from the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, stirred controversy by making personal comments about Atishi, accusing her of "changing her father."

Speaking at the event, Bidhuri said, "Atishi, who was Marlena, is now Singh. She has even changed her father. This reflects the character of the Aam Aadmi Party." He further accused Atishi’s parents of having supported a mercy petition for Afzal Guru, the terrorist convicted in the Parliament attack case, claiming it as evidence of the Aam Aadmi Party’s alleged double standards.

Kejriwal Condemns the Attack

Reacting strongly to Bidhuri's statements, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal criticized the BJP for resorting to personal attacks. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Kejriwal wrote, "BJP leaders have crossed all limits of shamelessness. They are abusing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi ji. The people of Delhi will not tolerate this insult to a woman Chief Minister. All the women of Delhi will ensure a fitting response."

Public Backlash

The remarks have drawn widespread condemnation from political circles and civil society, with many calling them sexist and unwarranted. AAP leaders have rallied behind Atishi, asserting that such comments are a desperate attempt to divert attention from pressing issues in the upcoming elections.

Atishi, who has been a prominent face of the Aam Aadmi Party, has faced similar personal attacks in the past. However, this incident has sparked a larger conversation about the need for civility and respect in political discourse, particularly concerning women in leadership positions. The controversy is likely to intensify political tensions in Delhi ahead of the Assembly elections, with both parties trading accusations and seeking to galvanize their voter bases.
