Chhattisgarh cabinet met today where state government has decided to notify the Guru Ghasidas-Tamore Pingla Tiger Reserve, encompassing the regions of Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Korea, Surajpur, and Balrampur districts. This decision follows the recommendation of the State Wildlife Board meeting and the approval of the National Tiger Conservation Authority under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

The reserve will cover an area of 2829.387 square kilometers, including the Guru Ghasidas National Park and the Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary. The Forest and Climate Change Department has been authorized to proceed with the formation of the reserve.

The establishment of the Tiger Reserve is expected to boost eco-tourism in the state. It will create various employment opportunities for locals, such as guides, tourist vehicle operators, and resort management within the core and buffer zones. Additionally, the National Project Tiger Authority will provide an extra budget for the reserve, enabling new livelihood development projects in the surrounding villages.
