Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai Meets US Ambassador Eric Garcetti, Discusses Investment and Development, Over Tea

Raipur, January 5, 2025 – Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met with the U.S. Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, at his residence, where they held a comprehensive discussion on boosting bilateral relations, investment opportunities, and the state's development potential.


The meeting marked an important step in strengthening ties between Chhattisgarh and the United States, with a particular focus on sectors like defense, logistics, IT, and semiconductors.

US Ambassador Impressed by Chhattisgarh's Vision for Growth Ambassador Garcetti expressed his admiration for Chhattisgarh's natural beauty and culture, describing it as a "peaceful and beautiful state."


Reflecting on his long-standing dream to visit the state, Garcetti shared that he had read and heard a lot about Chhattisgarh's tourism and cultural heritage.

He noted that the United States would soon become a partner in the state's journey toward progress. Chief Minister Sai briefed Garcetti on the significant strides Chhattisgarh has made in industrial growth and the conducive environment the state offers to global investors.

"Chhattisgarh is open for investment in all sectors, and we are fostering an atmosphere of growth and development," the Chief Minister said. "It is a proud moment for us to have the support of friendly nations like the United States."


Exploring Investment in Key Sectors

During the meeting, Garcetti highlighted Chhattisgarh's strong position in energy production, calling it a "surplus state" in electricity generation. He mentioned the vast investment potential in areas such as defense, logistics, IT, and semiconductors.

Garcetti assured that the U.S. would work closely with Chhattisgarh to promote investment from American companies, aiming to make the state a key destination for global investors. Chief Minister Sai assured Garcetti that the state government would provide all necessary facilities and support to investors, emphasizing that Chhattisgarh is committed to attracting business partnerships from across the world.

A Personal Invitation to Visit Bastar

In a lighter moment, Chief Minister Sai invited Ambassador Garcetti to explore Bastar, known for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant tribal culture. Garcetti, visibly intrigued, expressed his interest in visiting the region with his family. "I would love to visit Bastar with my family," Garcetti said, adding that the state's natural beauty had always captivated him.

Bastar Olympics and Regional Development

The conversation also touched on the progress in Bastar, an area traditionally affected by Naxalism. The Chief Minister informed Garcetti about the successful Bastar Olympics, an event that brought together locals of all ages to showcase their talents and promote peace.

Garcetti suggested inviting Olympic medalists to the next edition of the event, which would help bring international attention to the region. He also extended an invitation to the Chief Minister to attend the 2028 Summer Olympics in the United States.

Chief Minister Sai also briefed the ambassador on the state's extensive mineral resources, including rare earth metals and lithium. Chhattisgarh is the first state in India to conduct a lithium-ion auction. With 44% forest coverage, the state is a key player in the nation's development.

Sai mentioned that the state’s new industrial policy had already attracted MoUs worth over ₹50,000 crore.

Chhattisgarh's Commitment to Inclusive Growth

The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s efforts in promoting inclusive development, particularly through the "Mahatari Vandan Yojana" aimed at empowering women.

He spoke about the government’s ongoing initiatives to improve the standard of living in tribal areas, including better access to healthcare and education through the "Niyad Nella Nar" scheme.

A Heartfelt Exchange Over Tea

In a warm and friendly exchange, Chief Minister Sai offered Garcetti a cup of tea. To this, the Ambassador replied with enthusiasm, "I love tea!" enjoying a cup of Chhattisgarh's famous brew with the Chief Minister.

The Ambassador also sampled local delicacies, including jaggery-infused sweets, and was gifted herbal products from Chhattisgarh as a token of appreciation.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Chief Secretary Rahul Bhagat, Principal Secretary P. Dayanand, and Dr. Basavaraju S, along with officials from the U.S. Embassy. As the discussions concluded, both leaders expressed optimism for a future of collaboration and mutual growth, with Chhattisgarh set to play an increasingly important role on the global investment map.
