Cement price hike, Parliamentarian writes to Chief Minister, voicing opposition
The price of cement in Chhattisgarh has suddenly increased by ₹50, prompting MP Brijmohan Agrawal to voice strong opposition. He has written a letter to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, urging him to immediately roll back the price hike. Agrawal claims that cement companies in the state have formed a cartel, leading to an unreasonable price increase since September 3.
In his letter, Agrawal expressed concern that despite Chhattisgarh being rich in minerals, coal, and energy resources, cement companies have unjustly raised prices, burdening the public. He has also written to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the Chairman of the Competition Commission of India, requesting action against this cartel-like behavior.
Agrawal highlighted that the cement companies are exploiting Chhattisgarh’s abundant resources, including cheap labor and energy, yet continue to raise prices. The sudden ₹50 increase per cement bag, which was priced at ₹260 before September 3 and now costs ₹310, is placing a heavy financial strain on the people of the state.
This price hike is not only affecting citizens but also has serious implications for infrastructure projects like roads, buildings, bridges, canals, schools, and housing for the poor under the PM Awas Yojana. Agrawal has called for an urgent meeting with the companies to force them to reverse this price hike, which he deems detrimental to both state and national interests.
