British YouTuber jokes about nuking India, social media erupts

British YouTuber Miles Routledge faces backlash for joking about using nuclear weapons on X, targeting India among other nations.

India

A British YouTuber, Miles Routledge, has caused a storm of controversy with a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), in which he joked about using nuclear weapons to "atomize" nations, including India, for even the smallest infractions. Routledge, known for his provocative content, wrote, "When I become Prime Minister of England, I’ll open the nuclear silos as an explicit warning to any foreign power that interferes with British interests and affairs. I’m not talking about major incidents; I’m eager to launch and atomize entire nations over the slightest provocation."

In a now-deleted post, Routledge specifically targeted India, saying he might attack the country "just for the sake of it." He added, "Hell, I might just launch at India just for the sake of it!" His comments, seen by many as inciting outrage, have sparked widespread backlash online.

Accused of using inflammatory rhetoric, Routledge responded with racist remarks, stating, "Believe it or not, I just don't like India. Also, I can sense an Indian; he is Indian," after one anonymous user allegedly threatened him over his statements. He further reinforced his comments by sharing disturbing racist memes and AI-generated images.

Who is Miles Routledge?

Miles Routledge, a 25-year-old British student, became infamous in 2021 for his risky travel decisions when he was stranded in Afghanistan during the Taliban's takeover. Known as a “dangerous tourist,” he traveled to Afghanistan to experience life under the Taliban, arriving in Kabul just days before the city fell. Despite warnings from the British government, Routledge documented his trip on platforms like 4chan, Facebook, and Twitch. Following the Taliban takeover, he sought refuge in a safe house and was eventually evacuated by the British Army disguised as a woman in a burka.
