Bomb Threat Disrupts Over 40 Schools in Delhi, Students Sent Home
Delhi was on high alert Monday morning as over 40 schools, including Delhi Public School (DPS) RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar, received bomb threats via email. The threats, sent late Sunday night, claimed multiple bombs had been planted in the school buildings, prompting swift action by authorities.
Details of the Threat
The email, sent at 11:38 PM, stated, "The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate." The sender demanded a ransom of $30,000 to defuse the alleged bombs, adding, "You all deserve to suffer and lose limbs."
Immediate Response
The Delhi Fire Department received the first alert from GD Goenka School at 6:15 AM, followed by another call from DPS RK Puram at 7:06 AM.
Students were sent home as a precautionary measure while the dog squad, bomb detection teams, and local police conducted thorough search operations at the schools.
So far, no suspicious items have been found, a police official confirmed.
Investigation Underway
The Delhi Police is investigating the source of the email, including tracing the IP address of the sender. The police suspect the threat could be a hoax but are treating the situation with utmost seriousness.
Pattern of Threats
This incident follows a series of recent bomb threats targeting educational institutions: In October, an explosion outside a CRPF school in Rohini damaged nearby shops and vehicles. Shortly after, another email threatened bomb blasts at all CRPF schools. The threat was later found to be a hoax. Just a week ago, Rohini's Venkateshwar Global School received a similar email, which also turned out to be false.
Authorities on High Alert
Delhi schools have increased security measures in light of the recent threats. While police believe the emails could be hoaxes, they are leaving no stone unturned to ensure student safety and prevent potential disruptions in the future. Parents have been urged to remain calm as authorities continue their investigation. Further updates are expected as the police work to track down the individual responsible for the threats.
