BJP’s performance in Southern states, EAM Jaishankar responds

Political analysts from around the world are keen to know about the BJP performance in the Southern part of the country.

This debate of North versus the South has been triggered since the recent five state election where Telagana was the only Southern state.

While the rest of the states elected BJP to power as state government, Telangana voted in Congress party with clear majority. Thus the debate since then has been if BJP can indeed penetrate the Southern part to truly become a pan India party.

Responding to this question, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar says, “I think what you are seeing in South India is really a very new level of energy and enthusiasm. I could see that in Telangana, where I was, but in other southern states as well. So I think there’s a genuine possibility, a serious possibility this time that the BJP would actually pick up many more seats in all the southern states.”
